ABOUT THE EVENT
The first Batt Teachers’ Forum course on “Maritime Sector and Batteries” was organized in Bergen, Norway in December 2023, hosted by Fagskulen Vestland and in collaboration with Corvus Energy.
The around 30 participants came from seven different European countries and were vocational teachers in various disciplines. During the course, the participants received training in a number of subjects related to battery use and electrification of the maritime sector, with highly competent presenters from the industry and from the research field.
The course participants received training in lithium batteries with examples from both hybrid and fully electric vessels, how electric ferries charge, how fires in battery packs on board vessels can occur and be handled, and research within the field with a view to the future use of batteries in the maritime sector, like for example loading at sea. The participants also got an interesting tour of the battery factory of Corvus Energy and travelled with the electrric car ferry MF Kommandøren. During the trip, the course participants visited the battery compartment on the ferry and discussed advantages of electrification of this type of vessel with the captain.
The participants were also given a tour of Fagskulen Vestland’s training simulators for maritime educations and they made valuable contact with colleagues in other countries through group work and social activities.
